Melbourne Airport Rail is more than 50 years in the making and will connect Melbourne Airport to Victoria’s capital city, Melbourne, along with metropolitan and regional communities for the first time. Melbourne Airport Rail services will run on dedicated, new tracks from a new premium station at Melbourne Airport to a new train station in Keilor East, then through to Sunshine Station and the city via the Metro Tunnel and will provide a turn-up and go service to Melbourne Airport every 10 minutes.

Clearing the way for the new rail network

In 2022, Laing O'Rourke was awarded the contract to relocate and protect utilities along the rail corridor between Sunshine North and Tullamarine.

The relocation works will clear the way for new dedicated tracks along the existing Albion-Jacana freight corridor and towards Melbourne Airport.

Relocating critical utilities

More than 100 critical utilities will be relocated in 2023, including water, sewer, gas, electricity and telecommunications. The utility relocation and protection work will be completed in a way that aims to minimise disruption to businesses and the day-to-day lives of the community and commuters, ensuring a seamless transition.

Laing O'Rourke is proud to be working in partnership with Rail Projects Victoria to start works on this long-awaited project for Victoria. The Early Works Package was the first package awarded on Melbourne Airport Rail.
