Education, Science and Research

We have a strong track record in the Education, Science and Research sector, having delivered pioneering and award-winning buildings for institutions of global repute.

Our offsite manufacturing capabilities, along with research and development, has enabled us to develop a standardised school solution that can also be used for further and higher education facilities.

In the UK, our place on two government frameworks allows us to engage with the Department for Education, local authorities and teachers to design and build high quality schools that will serve generations of children. We deploy our knowledge of modern methods of construction to build better and greener schools in less time.

Life sciences is currently a priority sector for the UK government, with a huge focus on constructing high quality facilities that allows scientific research and development to continue at a rapid rate. Projects within this sector are often restricted when it comes to space, however our operating model allows us to continue top quality delivery in these conditions. A good example of this is the Henry Royce Institute in Manchester, which was situated in a busy university campus and surrounded by the city centre. By using a one team approach alongside a ‘just in time’ delivery operation model, the team was able to deliver with minimal disruption.

In Australia, Laing O’Rourke has become a trusted partner to a number leading academic institutions most recently delivering the Susan Wakil Health Building for the University of Sydney – a world-class purpose built facility that is training Australia’s future health workforce.
