Sizewell C
Sizewell C- Client Sizewell C
- Sector Power
- Location East Suffolk Coast, UK
- Status Live
Located on the East Suffolk coast, Sizewell C will supply power to 6 million homes and generate electricity for 60 years, boosting the UK’s energy security and providing thousands of jobs.
The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is a partnership between Sizewell C, Laing O’Rourke, Balfour Beatty, and Bouygues Travaux Publics, forming one collaborative delivery team to deliver the main civil works at Sizewell C.
Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the East Suffolk coast to provide reliable baseload low-carbon electricity.
The project is being built alongside Sizewell A and B, taking advantage of existing infrastructure and continuing a proud legacy of low-carbon energy generation on the Suffolk coast.
The Civil Works Alliance scope
- The alliance is responsible for delivering the following infrastructure:
- Enabling Works & Earthworks
- Marine & Tunnelling Works
- Main Civil Works (Nuclear Island, Conventional Island, Heat Sink and Balance of Plant)
- Ancillary Works & Permanent Roads and Networks (PRN)
Driving efficiency with smart replication
The experience we have gained at Hinkley Point C (HPC) will power the delivery of Sizewell C, which will replicate HPC’s design while incorporating lessons learned to drive innovation and unlock efficiencies.
A key example is our advanced reinforcement manufacturing facility at Avonmouth, where precision-engineered nuclear-grade reinforcement cages are manufactured off site. At HPC this manufacturing solution has reduced on-site hours by 53 per cent for the equivalent scope.
The off-site construction practices and manufacturing-level precision being achieved at HPC are only a preview of what we plan to integrate into the workflow at Sizewell C.
