Delivering energy certainty
Wheatstone Liquified Natural Gas (LNG)- Project Name Wheatstone Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Project
- Client Bechtel (Western Australia) Pty Ltd, representing Chevron Australia
- Location Ashburton, Western Australia
- Status Complete
The earthworks, concrete and civil works designed and delivered by Laing O’Rourke created the base on which one of Australia’s largest resource projects could be built.
On the Wheatstone LNG Project, Laing O'Rourke delivered certainty through the engineering, design, procurement and construction of all concrete and civil works for the LNG plant facility, ISBL trains and OSBL processing facilities in and around the plant.
Located in remote Western Australia, the project required 220,000m³ of concrete and paving, 794,000m3 of earthworks and 126,400m2 of formwork. Laing O’Rourke also directly employed around 1000 people to apply our mass of experience in remote infrastructure delivery, which, on a large scale, proved critical to the project’s success.
The result
After delivering the significant concrete and civil works component of the project over three years, Laing O’Rourke was awarded an additional package to deliver site finishing civil works. This included the final fill, grading, surfacing, landscaping and rehabilitation across the entire site, and ensuring the LNG plant was ready for operation once the main SMP and commissioning works were complete.
The Wheatstone LNG Project reinforced Chevron Australia’s position as a leading natural gas supplier and LNG operator in the Asia-Pacific region.
