Laing O’Rourke awarded Bridge Inn Road Upgrade as part of Victoria’s Big Build

10.12.21

We are delighted to announce Laing O’Rourke has been awarded the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade project by Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV). This is the second project won by our Victorian business under MRPV’s Program Delivery Approach, coming hard on the heels of the Princes Highway East – Kilmany project win.

Located in Melbourne’s northern suburbs of Doreen and Mernda, the project will upgrade a 3.5km section of Bridge Inn Road from 2 lanes to 6 lanes near Plenty Road and to 4 lanes at the eastern end. It involves the protection or relocation of over 250 utilities to enable the road widening within a very constrained corridor. We are constructing a new bridge over Plenty River and transforming the existing heritage bridge to connect in with a walking and cycling path. The project also includes upgrades at the intersections at Schotters Road, Vantage Point Boulevard and Painted Hills Road and installing new traffic lights at Cookes and Garden roads.

The upgrade will reduce congestion to get locals home sooner and safer, while boosting safety and connecting communities across the growing outer northern suburbs. Early site investigation works are underway to inform the design with major construction due to commence in mid-2022.

The project forms part of a $2.27 billion Suburban Roads Upgrade and this contract award is another step towards cementing our position as a trusted construction partner to MRPV. This record investment to upgrade suburban roads across Melbourne, is creating more than 4,500 Victorian jobs and supporting a further 11,000 indirect jobs.
