Trinity Leeds retail and leisure development has been awarded the International Council of Shopping Centres’ (ICSC) 2015 Best of the Best VIVA Award for Design and Development, at a ceremony in Las Vegas.

ICSC’s VIVA (Vision, Innovation, Value, Achievement) Awards recognise the most outstanding examples of shopping centre marketing, design and development, sustainability and community service worldwide.

Described by the judges as a “retail powerhouse” in the region, the development was praised for transforming Leeds’ existing retail and leisure offering, uniting three of the city’s primary shopping streets under a stunning, sweeping glazed feature roof. The scheme opened in 2013 and its world-class retail and leisure offer is regarded as a major catalyst for the resurgence of the Leeds retail market, bringing 65 new brands to the city (including 22 international retailers), and contributing towards Leeds’ growing status as one of the top three retail venues in the UK.

The Land Securities development was designed by architects Chapman Taylor and delivered by Laing O’Rourke under a design and build contract.

Dan Doherty, Laing O’Rourke’s retail sector leader, said:

“Trinity Leeds remains a stand out retail and leisure destination not only in the UK but, as this award highlights, globally. Having worked closely with Land Securities and Chapman Taylor from the start, we are proud to have delivered a scheme that has stayed true to its vision and congratulate our project partners for this recognition of outstanding retail design.”
