Laing O'Rourke Awarded Major AUKUS Contract for Nuclear-Powered Submarine Infrastructure

In a major step for Australia’s largest-ever defence infrastructure program, Laing O’Rourke has been awarded the Capability Partner contract for the Nuclear‑Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY), by Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI).

Laing O’Rourke, with joint venture partner Amentum Australia, will play a central role in developing and delivering the future NPSCY project at Osborne, South Australia.

The Laing O’Rourke Amentum joint venture leverages experience in the delivery of complex mega projects and combines Australian infrastructure expertise and local knowledge with international nuclear capability. As Capability Partner, we will provide program and construction management services of nuclear related civil infrastructure, site‑wide nuclear licensee development expertise, and nuclear safety leadership. Working as part of ANI’s Integrated Delivery Office (IDO), we will collaborate closely with ANI to shape and help deliver the next phase of major construction activity across the nuclear and non-nuclear precincts of the NPSCY site.

The Nuclear‑Powered Submarine Construction Yard is a cornerstone of the AUKUS submarine pathway, and a critical piece of infrastructure that will enable Australia to construct SSN-AUKUS submarines for the first time.

This project is critical to strengthening Australia’s long‑term national security, deepening defence industrial capability, and creating thousands of highly skilled jobs in South Australia.
