Everton Stadium - In tribute to Michael Jones

17.08.23

On Monday 14 August, a member of our team who was carrying out work for one of our sub-contractors was seriously injured in an incident. He was taken to hospital via ambulance, where he sadly died.

His name was Michael Jones. He was 26 years old and a lifelong Everton fan.

“Michael was a valued member of our Everton Stadium project team and was liked and respected by everyone from Laing O’Rourke who worked alongside him. He took great pride in what he did and, being a huge Everton fan, I know he was really excited about working on the stadium.

We will do all that we can to support his family and our wider project team at Everton who are all shocked and deeply saddened by Monday’s tragic incident.”

We are in contact with Michael’s family and at the appropriate time we will discuss with them and Everton how best to pay tribute to the contribution Michael made to Everton Stadium.

Our focus for the rest of this week is on supporting all those affected by what’s happened and assisting the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in its investigation.

We will continue to cooperate with the HSE and plan to resume work on site next week, when we will bring our people together to hold a minute’s silence in memory of Michael.
