Laing O’Rourke consortium awarded Byford Rail Extension

17.12.21

We were thrilled to receive the news yesterday that our consortium with Pritchard Francis Consulting and KBR has been selected to deliver the Byford Rail Extension. This project includes eight kilometres of rail line to Byford along with the construction of an elevated rail line through the suburb of Armadale, allowing for the removal of three level crossings, and new stations at Armadale and Byford.

In addition to taking cars off the road, the project will further help improve traffic flow with the reconfiguration of Thomas Road into a road-over-rail bridge. Located 400 metres north of Abernethy Road, the project will also provide future passengers with a 42-minute train journey to the Perth CBD and support the growing town centre. Early work on the Byford Rail Extension is already underway on the Thomas Road Over Rail Project.

Mark Dimmock, Laing O’Rourke Australia Director - Clients & Markets said “We are thrilled to once again partner with the Western Australian Government to deliver another piece of state significant infrastructure. We have a long and proud history of delivery for the people of WA stretching back over 50 years and we are committed to creating great social and community outcomes with this important project.”

As stated by Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher:

“The Morrison Government is continuing to fund the delivery of important infrastructure projects like METRONET, which help people to get home to their families sooner and safer, move freight more quickly between our cities, and generate jobs across the country.

“These projects are being funded as part of the Morrison Government’s record $110 billion, 10 year infrastructure investment pipeline, which is helping to drive Australia’s economic recovery.”
