Laing O’Rourke has achieved the globally recognised specification PAS 2080: 2023 for carbon management in buildings and infrastructure awarded by BSI.

The specification, commissioned by the Green construction board & sponsored by the Institution of Civil Engineers, was updated in 2023 to strengthen focus and collaboration across the full built environment with the inclusion of ‘buildings’ into its scope.

This is the latest milestone Laing O’Rourke has reached, having been the first construction group to have achieved the highly sought after built environment quality standard in September last year (BS 99001).

Peter Lyons, Managing Director of the Europe Hub said: “Laing O’Rourke is driven by its purpose to push the boundaries of what’s possible in service of humanity. That’s why sustainability, including carbon reduction, is essential to our long-term resilience.

“Achieving, certification to PAS 2080, on top of the independent quality standard we achieved last year demonstrates our commitment to excellence.

“The entire team has worked hard to improve the way we manage and measure our carbon emissions to make it a central part of every project. I am proud of how we’ve worked together and with our supply chain partners to achieve this globally recognised specification.”

Shahm Barhom, Managing Director, Product Certification, BSI said “The built environment sector has a vital role to play in reducing emissions and in developing infrastructure that is sustainable. This certification demonstrates a clear commitment to robust carbon management practices, collaboration across the value chain, and transparent governance in support of net zero ambitions. By embedding the principles of PAS 2080 into its processes, Laing O’Rourke is helping to drive meaningful carbon reduction across the built environment and setting a strong example for the wider industry.”

Rosella Nicolin, Head of Sustainability for Europe said: “Our carbon management process was subject to rigorous external audits to achieve this independent recognition.

“This means that our clients can have confidence in our approach and our ability to drive carbon reduction in our projects in collaboration with other value chain members.”
