BuiltView Mobile, developed and built from Laing O’Rourke’s Australian Technology & Innovation Group, is the dedicated camera app for construction teams. Allowing workers to take more photos with less effort, BuiltView uses automatic timestamping, quick categorisation, immediate synchronisation and location services, streamlining the capture process. Accompanying the app, the BuiltView platform allows users to easily retrieve, share and collaborate on photos and videos amongst team members and external parties like consultants and clients.

Visual site documentation is a key relationship management tool between stakeholders when managing large contracts and is essential for documentation for regulatory approvals, contractual claims, and disputes. The process of capturing, storing, and sharing photos and videos can take a significant amount of time and there is little industry-wide continuity on how visual evidence is managed. When considering this across many millions of photos this issue becomes a major challenge to productivity and contractual risk. Laing O’Rourke believe this technology has the ability to save millions in time and claim certainty.

In addition to the capture of evidence, BuiltView continues to play a crucial role in driving engagement for projects impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. BuiltView allows clients, designers, commercial teams, and environmental teams to access photos, videos and 360 footage without attending site, allowing projects to continue to obtain approvals and provide crucial updates despite travel restrictions. As we learn to live with COVID-19 as the new normal, we see BuiltView driving continued savings in productivity and travel reduction for clients and consultants.

Over the last 12 months of development BuiltView has surpassed Proof of Concept and prototype phases and has officially launched as the dedicated camera app for construction teams. The word is fast spreading with customers like Transport for NSW, John Holland and NovoRail all looking to implement this technology. The pathway for BuiltView looks bright, with early considerations of external commercialisation on the horizon. After the overwhelming success of spin-out of Presien from the Technology & Innovation Group, Laing O’Rourke are confident that BuiltView could be successful in following the same path.
