Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport is the new metro railway line which will service Greater Western Sydney and the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport. A city-shaping project, the 23-kilometre new railway line will connect the Western Sydney Aerotropolis in the south with St Marys in the north where customers can connect to the existing Sydney Trains suburban T1 Western Line.
In February 2023, Laing O’Rourke was awarded the contract for Transport for NSW to deliver a new footbridge and pedestrian plaza at St Marys Station as part of the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project. The project is due for completion in 2025.
The fully accessible footbridge will enable commuters to seamlessly transfer between new metro platforms and suburban trains on the T1 Western Line.
It will also link to a new pedestrian plaza at the northern end of the footbridge and the newly expanded multi-storey car park at Harris Street.
The addition of a new plaza and entry on the northern side of the existing rail corridor will provide quick and easy access to the existing station and improve the connectivity in St Marys.
This space will include green areas, kiss and ride, bicycle storage and the opportunity for future development.
