Abraham Moss marks milestone with visit from local councillors

23.08.22

Recently Abraham Moss welcomed, Cllr Hacking, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure, Cllr Riasat and Cllr Amin. The councillors visited in the week that the project team achieved structural completion of the new Abraham Moss Library and Leisure Centre.

This includes completion of the building’s steel structure, with Laing O’Rourke’s specialist business, Expanded, also completing the first-floor decks. The teams have now started the roof and façade works, bringing them on the path to weather proofing the building before they commence the internal fit out.

As elements of the structure were completed, the team began a phased approach to the façade works. Good progress has meant that large elements of brickwork and cladding have already been completed, with over 60% of the building’s roof also now in place.

Laing O’Rourke’s specialist engineering and business services business, Crown House Technologies (CHt) is underway with the installation of MEP modules and plant room skids all of which were made at the CHt manufacturing facility in Oldbury.

Our foot has been fully on the gas since we started work at Abraham Moss. Our latest milestone is testament to the team’s continuous hard work, and I thank them for that. This project is a shining example of collaboration through the Laing O’Rourke in-house businesses, and their expertise.

“It was great to have the local councillors visit the site, and it gave us the opportunity to showcase the progress we have made. Everyone is pleased with the build so far and we can’t wait to welcome them once the facilities are open. It’s good to hear feedback from the councillors’ that their constituents are excited about the new facility and that they are watching it take shape over the hoarding.”

It's great that we have reached this milestone in the construction of the new Abraham Moss Library and Leisure Centre. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the site earlier this month and it's brilliant to see all of the team's hard work.

"Our investment into this fantastic new facility in North Manchester will be a real asset to the people of Crumpsall and the wider area. It will enable residents to enjoy a new state of the art library as well as some of the highest quality leisure facilities in their community."
