NAIDOC Week 2021

Laing O’Rourke has a long and deep commitment to taking action to support reconciliation and Indigenous participation in Australia. The business was the first Australian Tier 1 construction company to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan, leading industry change in this space.

Across Australia NAIDOC Week celebrations are underway, and after a number of tumultuous years, the theme for 2021 - Heal Country! – is ever so fitting. Country is inherent to the identity of First Nations peoples and is more than a place.

When Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples talk about Country, they speak about it like it is a person. It is family, kin, ceremony, traditions and language. The right to protect Country and culture is fundamental and we are all being called to action.

As a business, Laing O’Rourke respects and embraces Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, cultural knowledge and unique history that spans over 65,000 years. This week has provided a great opportunity to delve deeper and learn more about First Nations culture and how we can each play our part in healing Country and the journey to reconciliation.
