First MIF event takes place at The Factory

22.07.21

Recently we saw the first Manchester International Festival event take place in The Factory.

The event, Arcadia, was an overnight installation which ran over Friday and Saturday night, created by acclaimed director Deborah Warner. Attendees were treated to a first glimpse into The Factory, alongside a rich soundtrack of poetry inspired by the natural world.

As Gold supporters of MIF21, Laing O’Rourke team members transformed the construction site into a space that would allow visitors to experience The Factory as an arts venue for the first time.

We’re proud of our long-standing relationship with Manchester International Festival which this year saw us donate our time and resources to ready The Factory for the Arcadia installation. We must thank our client, Manchester City Council who allowed us to make the temporary transition. It was thrilling to see people use the space to experience Arcadia and the team felt privileged to play its part in bringing the first artwork into the building."

Neville Hodson Project Director The Factory

A timelapse showing footage of construction from December 2019 is available here: www.mif.co.uk/the-factory The construction team is currently focused on the completion of the precast panelling to the steel frame of the theatre and warehouse.

The Factory is one of the biggest developments of its kind in Europe. The landmark cultural space is backed by Manchester City Council, along with funding from Central Government and Arts Council England, and will be Manchester International Festival’s permanent home, presenting an ambitious and world-class year-round programme of major artists from across the globe.
