Award win success

December has proven to be a successful month for Laing O’Rourke with several award wins.

Our Middle East EXPO team based in Dubai is celebrating after securing four awards at the Expo 2020 Better Together Awards 2018 including ‘Contractor of the Year’.

They won in the following categories:

• Worker Welfare Initiative of the Year

• Project Manager of the Year (Nathan Swanson)

• Worker Welfare Impact Award (Anju Narang)

• Contractor of the Year

The team was nominated for seven awards which recognise the work carried out by contractors working on the Expo 2020 project.

Mark Andrews, Managing Director for Laing O’Rourke’s Middle East business, said: “We are delighted to be recognised for our tremendous effort in continuously maintaining excellent health, safety, quality and environment (HSQE) performance and providing the highest worker welfare standards on our projects. Expo 2020 is expecting 25 million visitors and we understand the client’s need to ensure that the event is prepared for and delivered in the most efficient way possible.”

Meanwhile, in London, Our Ferrovial Agroman/Laing O’Rourke (FLO) team at the Northern Line Extension project won four awards including three at the New Civil Engineer Tunnelling Festival.

They walked away with Best Health Initiative for their mental health programme at the TfL Supplier Awards and the following accolades at the Tunnelling Festival:

• Tunnelling project of the year ($100m – $1bn)

• Health, Safety & Wellbeing Initiative of the Year – for our workforce wellbeing and mental health awareness

• Young Tunneller of the Year – awarded to our JV partner’s Alejandro Vazquez; of FLO’s tunnelling team.

And our team at Vetter UK has won the Interior Fit-Out category at this year’s Natural Stone Awards for their stonework on the Clarges Estate project competing against seven other entries.

The awards celebrate and recognise the excellence of design in natural stone projects from across the industry.

Laing O'Rourke was responsible for the demolition, construction and full fit-out of the four buildings in Mayfair which took three years to complete.
