Laing O’Rourke Wins Gold For Supporting The Armed Forces

Ministry of Defence announces winners of the Employer Recognition Scheme.

Laing O’Rourke has been named as one of 33 employers to be awarded gold in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).

The ERS Gold Awards recognise employers who actively support the Armed Forces community in their workplace and also encourage others to follow their lead. It’s the highest badge of honour for organisations which have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and demonstrated outstanding support for those who serve and have served.

Defence Secretary, Sir Michael Fallon MP said: “These companies have shown the gold standard of commitment to supporting members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families. They have taken meaningful steps to ensure the defence community are not disadvantaged by the sacrifice they make in helping keep this country safe. The actions of these employers make it crystal clear that regardless of size, location or sector, employing people with military skills is good for business.”

Dave Meacock, senior leadership and management development advisor, who leads on our relationship with the Ministry of Defence said: “Since signing the Armed Forces covenant in 2015 we have gone from strength to strength, attending recruitment events with the Careers Transition Partnership (CTP) and the British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS), regional brigades and Army engagement events. We’ve engaged with many corps associations at reserve centres up and down the country and held events to mark Armed Forces and Reserves Days.

Dave joined Laing O’Rourke in 2015, and is a serving Reservist. “My current role is Warrant Officer Class One (Master Gunner) in the Army. I am the senior soldier responsible for overseeing the technical aspects, instruction, advice and compliance on surface-to-air missile systems, range safety during live firings and the coaching and mentoring of young operators.”
