LOR Wins Best Apprentice Employer

Laing O’Rourke has been named ‘Apprentice Employer of the Year’ at the 2016 CITB Apprenticeship Awards. The business took top prize in the ‘large employer’ category at a ceremony on Thursday in London, beating competition from nominees including J Murphy & sons and Keepmoat.

Accepting the award, Apprenticeship Programme Manager, Scott Bell, said: “This is a fantastic endorsement for everyone involved in the delivery of apprenticeships at Laing O’Rourke.

“Our learning and development team works incredibly hard to ensure we are providing our entry-level talent with the highest quality training. But we couldn’t do it without the commitment of those ‘out in the field’ – those on our projects and at our manufacturing facilities, who provide our apprentices with the practical experience necessary to succeed.

“This award is also testament to the dedication of the apprentices themselves. It’s an absolute pleasure to play a part in the development of such a passionate and enthusiastic group of people.”

Head of Operational Training, Alison Lamplough, said: “As a direct employer, Laing O’Rourke is quite unique in the industry. This is very much reflected in our approach to learning and development. We invest in our people for the long-term. Today’s apprentices are tomorrow’s technicians, supervisors, managers, even senior leaders.

“It’s important our people are able to keep pace with our increasingly high-tech engineering and manufacturing methodologies. So, our apprenticeships are very much geared towards providing participants with a rounded set of capabilities; the skills they need now and those they’ll need in the future.”

Laing O’Rourke offers apprenticeships in a range of disciplines. Recruitment for our 2017 intake will begin in spring next year. To find out more, go to www.laingorourke.com/careers.
