October 2020 saw the opening of Hotel Indigo, a 283-room boutique hotel situated along the banks of Dubai Creek in downtown Dubai. The client had a vision of luxury, inspired by an untold story of the Dubai Creek and our talented artisans at Laing O’Rourke Joinery helped bring that aspiration to reality.
The team carved wooden doors, hand crafted in Mashrabiya style with a modern twist and created bespoke shisha lamps which are now set against striking surreal feature wallpaper. Vibrant Moroso designer furniture was created adding a contemporary touch to the interiors while a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) approach was put to effect to deliver the spa inspired mother of pearl bathroom pods that pay tribute to United Arab Emirates’ proud heritage of pearl diving.
Hotel Indigo was the brand’s inauguration into the region which is why the client wanted to work in partnership with a joinery contractor that they could trust to provide high end bespoke interiors with a local flavour. Interpreting the client’s vision and paying meticulous attention to detail has paid off, with Hotel Indigo being ranked 3rd out of 776 hotels in Dubai by TripAdvisor, just six months after opening.
The client requirements involved elements of bespoke joinery as well as an ability to design and deliver components using a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) approach. Our in-house manufacturing capabilities and team of experienced craftspeople meant that we had the ability to meet the brief, providing certainty and cost-effective solutions to the client. Through early involvement in the design process, we were able to minimise raw material wastage from the outset, and maximise recycling throughout the manufacturing process.
