Full project details
As part of the Novo Rail alliance, Laing O’Rourke is delivering a large infrastructure upgrade program to the Sydney rail network. The program aims to increase the network’s capacity, meet the demands of patronage growth and achieve a better rail system overall.
As part of the Novo Rail alliance, Laing O’Rourke is delivering a large infrastructure upgrade program to the Sydney rail network.
The extensive program began in 2009 and in 2013 was extended for a further five years. As well as being the client, Transport for NSW is a partner in the alliance, ensuring a highly collaborative approach to the various key projects. At its peak, the alliance employs about 350 people, undertaking projects ranging from small jobs through to complex design and construction works.
The projects generally fall within five categories: junctions, traction supply upgrades, stabling, overhead wiring and rail signalling. These are often integrated works, rather than one-off isolated projects, with a specific cultural approach to delivery. This approach is underpinned by best-practice collaboration, flexibility and flawless safety performance.
The alliance team was able to offer the client a pool of specialist resources with industry-leading expertise in program management, rail system design and rail infrastructure delivery. With experience in signalling, electrical and track works, the team is working within a busy, complex suburban rail network to deliver this high-profile, multidisciplinary program.
A comprehensive community and stakeholder engagement program has been developed to ensure the support of key stakeholders, as well as a good working relationship within the affected communities. The alliance also aims to encourage the growth of resources available to the industry, particularly signalling and electrical engineers.
As part of our commitment to our client and to the surrounding community, we regularly publish environmental reports from the project, including the following noise monitoring analysis:

Parramatta Turnback Project
Hornsby Junction Remodelling Project
Novo Rail delivered the Hornsby Junction Remodelling Project in accordance with Environment Protection Licence number 20824 held by Laing O’Rourke. A copy of the licence is on the EPA’s public register.
