Full project details
In January 2011 Laing O’Rourke was awarded the contract to deliver the $136 million Griffith University Health Centre project on the Gold Coast. The project involved the design and construction of a new Centre for Medicine and Oral Health and Common Use Teaching Facility for Griffith University.
The new eleven-storey Centre for Medicine and Oral Health comprises the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Oral Health, and Psychology and is capable of supporting teaching, research and clinical activities and facilities.
The three-storey Common Use Teaching Facility building incorporates two lecture theatres (600 seats and 200 seats), four seminar rooms (30 seats each) and a common foyer with servery.
The project included significant public space to support the activities of both facilities. Due to the proximity of the Common Use Teaching Facility to the adjacent public areas, there is significant cover across this space to provide protection from the elements.
Delivered under a two-stage Managing Contractor (design and construct) contract, the project has enhanced patient care, student education, clinical training, research and community services across one of Australia’s fastest growing regions.
