Full project details
Laing O'Rourke is delivering the structural, mechanical and piping (SMP) works for the in-loading and out-loading conveyors and transfer towers at Rio Tinto's Cape Lambert Port B stockyards.
The reliable delivery of this materials handling and processing infrastructure has led to Laing O’Rourke being awarded multiple packages of work; including:
Cape Lambert Port B Phase A SMP
This $137 million package of works, delivered between March 2012 and November 2013, saw the installation of 9 transfer stations and 13 conveyors, resulting in 10km of conveyors through the stockyards and out to the export jetty. The work also included the fabrication and installation of 12km of fire and dust suppression piping associated with the stockyards.
Cape Lambert Port B Phase B SMP
This $161 million package of works, to be delivered between August 2013 and September 2014, is almost identical in scope to Phase A. It includes delivery of additional SMP works, including nine transfer stations, 13 conveyors across 11km through the stockyards and out to the export jetty and the installation of 12km of fire and dust suppression piping.
Cape Lambert Port B Package 3 SMP
This $40 million package of work, to be delivered between March 2014 and May 2015, includes the installation of four new conveyors and three new transfer stations, as well as modifications to one existing transfer station and seven existing conveyors.
Cape Lambert Port B Package 3 E&I
Worth $12 million, Laing O’Rourke is also delivering electrical and instrumentation works for the new infrastructure, including a switch room, overland conveyor, transfer stations, and multiple tie-ins to the current plant.
