Laing O'Rourke to clear the way for Melbourne Airport Rail08.11.22
Laing O'Rourke has been formally appointed by Rail Projects Victoria to commence utility relocation works as part of the Early Works package to clear the way for the construction of Melbourne Airport Rail.
Melbourne Airport Rail will connect Melbourne Airport to the Melbourne CBD, and suburbs and towns across the state by rail for the first time.
The Victorian and Australian governments have committed $5 billion each to deliver the project.
Laing O'Rourke will relocate more than 100 utility services including gas, electricity, telecommunications and water along the rail corridor between Sunshine North and Tullamarine. The relocation works will make space for new dedicated tracks along the existing Albion-Jacana freight corridor and construction of a pedestrian overpass at Sunshine North.
This is the first package of works awarded on Melbourne Airport Rail.
Rebecca Hanley, Managing Director for Laing O’Rourke in Australia said this is an exciting time for Laing O'Rourke in Australia, and our Melbourne Airport Rail Early Works team.
We are proud to be working in partnership with Rail Projects Victoria to start works on this long-awaited project for Victoria.
Laing O’Rourke has worked on many of Australia’s most critical rail projects over the last fifty years, and we are thrilled to be playing a role in this nationally significant project.
