Explore Industrial Park, located in Steetley, on the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border, represents £80m of investment into modern methods of construction.

Across the Group, we are moving selected activities to the new offsite manufacturing and preassembly facility, where we are able to drive out waste and increase safety, productivity, quality and sustainability.

We continue to develop a product-based approach to construction, working with designers to encourage the use of a small number of standard components in their designs, allowing for offsite manufacturing and construction programmes.

Building Information Modelling

We are using sophisticated Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology on an increasing number of projects to build structures virtually, before construction starts on site. We are committed to achieving this capability on all projects by 2012.

Moving beyond traditional digital prototyping, BIM models enable tighter control, more informed decision making and better planning by bringing together a host of information about a facility’s physical and functional features across its lifecycle. Using BIM, every component, material or package of works can be isolated and interrogated against a limitless range of criteria.
