Cardiff Central Library
Set to become an icon of sustainable construction for Wales, the new Cardiff Central Library is a state-of-the-art public learning and cultural venue.
The library features a grass roof, which insulates the building, shields it from external noise and reduces the risk of local flooding and pollution. This is just one of the design features that helped the development achieve a post-construction BREEAM rating of excellent and win ‘project of the year’ at the Wales Constructing Excellence Awards 2009.
The library was delivered on time, on budget and without a single reportable accident.

Our innovation team is involved in an exciting research project with partners Imperial College, Rio Tinto and WSP to develop a revolutionary cement which offsets global warming.
Novacem cement hardens by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere, permanently locking it into building materials. This innovation opens up the prospect of the industry transforming itself from being part of the climate change problem to part of its solution.
At the beginning of 2009, Novacem Ltd took top prize at the annual Rushlight Awards, held to celebrate organisations that help advance ‘green’ technology.
