RedR becomes our new corporate charity

Laing O’Rourke's Australia Hub has appointed leading humanitarian agency RedR as its new corporate charity, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this month.

RedR Australia works to relieve suffering during humanitarian crisis, by selecting, training and providing competent and committed personnel to humanitarian relief agencies worldwide.

With operations around the world, Laing O’Rourke is an Engineering Enterprise that plays an important part in many different communities, not just delivering critical infrastructure – but also creating employment and business opportunities, supporting local initiatives and engaging with schools and colleges.

The MoU will see Laing O’Rourke donate an initial $50,000 to support RedR Australia’s important work. It will also establish a Value Chain Plan that will focus on employee engagement and building to skills transfer.

Australia Hub Managing Director Cathal O’Rourke said that Laing O’Rourke is pleased to partner with such a vital community organisation.

“The work and ongoing support provided by RedR around the world helps communities rebuild and recover in times of crisis,” Mr O’Rourke said.

RedR Australia was established in 1992 by an engineer, Jeff Dobell, who called on his peers to apply their skills to disaster relief. They are now the only UN standby partner in the Asia Pacific, and a trusted contributor to disaster preparedness and response efforts around the world.

“Laing O’Rourke employs a community of networked, qualified, vibrant engineering professionals, which puts us in a position to provide valuable support to RedR,” Mr O’Rourke added.

“As a business, we are committed to delivering innovative, industry-leading solutions and practices wherever we operate. I am confident we can lend our skills, experience and expertise to assist RedR in its endeavours.”

CEO of RedR Australia, Kirsten Sayers, is excited to embrace this new partnership.

“Laing O’Rourke’s values are closely aligned with those of RedR Australia and we look forward to a productive and mutually beneficial partnership,” Mrs Sayers said.

“With the support of companies such as Laing O’Rourke, RedR Australia is able to increase our reach and impact in communities around the world which have been hardest hit by conflict and natural disasters.”
