Laing O’Rourke has been awarded a place on the National Grid Overhead Lines Framework, as part of their billion pound investment programme.
The Overhead Lines Design and Build framework has been established to deliver an increased level of capital investment. Under the new framework we will be able to tender for 400 and 275 kV schemes, with projects including constructing new overhead lines and refurbishing existing infrastructure across England and Wales.
Adam Middleton, power sector lead explains the significance of this win: ‘This is a new area for Laing O’Rourke, which will help to grow our capability and increase our presence within the power sector, pushing us one step closer on our journey to 2020.
“National Grid is keen to bring new innovations into the sector to fulfil their commitments under the RIIO agreement. We feel that winning a place on this framework demonstrates National Grid has confidence in our capacity to deliver.”
Framework leader, Chris Verity said: “We will be partnering with SAG, Germany’s leading high voltage transmission specialist, to deliver the work. Laing O’Rourke will deliver the civil design, installation, logistics and project management aspects, and SAG will work with us on the electrical design and conductor installation.”
Tendering for packages on the framework will begin this year, with delivery of projects expected to start in 2015.
The win follows hot on the heels of the appointment to the Substation Framework that will see up to £650m of high voltage transmission substations delivered over the next four years.
