Golden win at Construction Manager of the Year Awards

Laing O’Rourke’s Chris Rafferty won Gold in the New build & Refurbishment over £80m category at the CIOB’s annual awards, in recognition of his leadership while delivering the Land Securities’ Trinity Leeds retail scheme.

The prestigious awards recognise high calibre industry talent and inspiring leadership across the UK and Ireland. The award is the latest accolade for the multi-award winning project, which was the biggest retail scheme to open in Western Europe in 2013.

The CIOB cited the value placed on collaboration, relationships, trust and integrity as key factors setting Chris apart. The industry body also highlighted the successful application of of DfMA, which allowed the project to minimise disruption to neighbours; with Digital Engineering techniques used to eliminate service and interface clashes.

The CIOB commented: "He made the very most of his chance to lead a wonder project, finishing on budget, on time, to superlative quality, with team harmony intact and a client who knows and appreciates his construction manager’s true value."
