In late 2013 Laing O’Rourke secured two industry-leading awards for its delivery of the K10 Berth Construction on Newcastle’s Kooragang Island.
Each year Master Builders Australia acknowledges excellence in the building and construction industry through its prestigious State and National Awards.
Laing O’Rourke was named the winner of the Civil Engineering Projects ($20,000,001 & over) category at the NSW Master Builders Association (MBA) 2013 Excellence in Construction Awards for its delivery of the K10 Berth Construction project.
Laing O’Rourke also took out the Toyota National Civil/Infrastructure Award (over $25 million) category at the MBA National Awards for the same project.
In recognition of the industry acknowledgement of K10’s successes, a booklet celebrating K10’s achievements has been produced.
The K10 Berth Construction project was delivered for Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) in December 2012. Not only was the project delivered two months ahead of schedule, it also had an exemplary safety record and was delivered under budget.
It was the third consecutive wharf project Laing O’Rourke has successfully delivered at Newcastle's Kooragang Island in less than five years – having previously completed K8 and K9 for NCIG and K7 for Port Waratah Coal Services.
The project comprised construction of:
