Deal for new media school signed

SchoolSalford’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) partners reached financial close on the new Oasis Academy MediaCityUK today (2 Feb), the third school within the programme.

The agreement secures the building of a new 900-place academy on the doorstep of MediaCityUK where the BBC is relocating its major departments.

Designs for the new academy show modern teaching spaces, a large atrium for assemblies and presentations, dance and drama workshops, a media zone with radio and TV studios and a sports and performance hall.

Salford City Council, with Wigan is working with Transformational Learning Partnership (TLP) to deliver its BSF programme; a 50:50 consortium made up of Laing O’Rourke and Hochtief PPP Solutions.

Councillor John Merry CBE, leader of Salford Council said: “This is another milestone for our Building Schools for the Future programme and we’re working hard to ensure we progress as much of our plans as possible.”

Stephen Hockaday, Education Sector Leader, Laing O’Rourke added: “We’re creating a facility with the capacity to transform opportunities for children in Salford.

“The partnership with the council and Oasis means the new academy is designed to help each child reach their individual potential and it will be at the heart of the community.”
