How do I apply for a vacancy?
Please apply via our careers page. If you are an entry level applicant please select entry level vacancies.  For all other positions please select general vacancies.

What is your recruitment process?
Applications are only accepted via our online system.

All applications are carefully reviewed and we will contact you to you as soon as we can regarding your application.  If you have created an account with us you will be able to track your application.  You can also set up email alerts if we don’t have a suitable role for you at this stage.

The next stage will be an interview.  If you are being considered for the Graduate Development programme, you may be nominated to attend an Assessment Centre.

Our Assessment Centre is a one day event.  We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed with yourself during the time you are with us. We know and appreciate that you will be naturally nervous so we try to put you at ease, so we can see and assess you in your best light. You will undertake a series of exercises are designed to show your strengths and skills. However, we also want to give you an idea of what it would be like working for Laing O’Rourke, so you will be able to meet our managers, engineers and recent graduates on an informal basis.

What sort of person are you looking for?
There is no ideal candidate because everyone is different and has different skills to offer. However for our Graduate Development Programme, as a minimum you will have or be expecting to graduate with a minimum 2:1.

We have links with a number of key UK and European universities but ultimately we aim to recruit the right employee for Laing O’Rourke.

What is expected of me at an Assessment Centre?
We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed during the two days that you are with us. We know and appreciate that you will be naturally nervous so we try to put you at ease so we can see and assess you in your best light. You will undertake a series of exercises and assessments, including a technical interview which is designed to show your strengths and skills. However, we also want to give you an idea of what it would be like working for Laing O’Rourke so you will be able to meet our managers, engineers and recent graduates on an informal basis.

Tell me about your accredited training schemes?
We have accredited training schemes with RICS, ICE, and IMechE. Your Mentor and your manager will work with you to develop an individual training plan to help you work towards achieving your Chartered status and to develop your long term career with Laing O’Rourke. He/she will be of Chartered status and will meet with you regularly to discuss your progress and achievement with the company, signing off your evidence on a quarterly basis.

Is there much opportunity for me to travel abroad?
Opportunities do arise, but it is dependant on work load, your availability, client requirements, your desire to travel etc. Although we are recruiting specifically for our European and Australian Hubs, our growing success means that there will be greater opportunities to work abroad in the future.

When are references checked?
All offers are subject to reference checking.  An email will be sent to your personal account and you will be requested to complete a reference questionnaire.

What benefits would I receive, should my application be successful?
All Laing O’Rourke benefits are discussed at interview stage by the HR contact.

I have not received my offer paperwork. Whom should I contact?
Please contact the HR contact with whom you have been in discussions. Alternatively, contact the hiring manager who conducted your interview.
